Bring comfort, connection and healing through the arts

At Royal North Shore Hospital, moments of creativity can make a profound difference. The Art of Wellness supports patients, carers, staff and the wider community through participatory art and music – offering comfort, emotional support and human connection during what can often be stressful and uncertain times.

Guided by NSW Health’s arts framework, the program recognises the important role creativity can play in wellbeing and the experience of care.

Our mission: To bring support to patients, carers and staff through the inclusion of the arts.

Why this matters

A hospital can be a confronting place. For patients and families facing illness, treatment or long stays, the arts can offer a welcome moment of calm, expression and joy.

Music can lift spirits. Participatory art can create connection and give people a meaningful outlet during difficult times. Together, these experiences help bring warmth and compassion to the hospital environment.

Help bring the arts to those who need it most

The annual program cost is $25,000. Your support can help expand its reach into hospital wards so that even more patients can benefit from music, creativity and connection during their care.

Please donate to The Art of Wellness today and help bring comfort, connection and healing through the arts.

How donor support helps

Your generosity will help sustain and grow three important parts of The Art of Wellness program.

Festival of Music

Since 2016, the Festival of Music has brought live performance to the hospital each December, filling the main atrium with music from hospital staff, schools, choirs and community performers who volunteer their time.

The festival reaches hundreds of patients, carers and staff each day across the five-day event, creating moments of joy and connection at a busy time of year.

Your donation can help the program expand into hospital wards, bringing live music to patients who are unable to leave their rooms.

Wishing Well Project: Art
Participatory Art Project

Led by dedicated volunteers, including a trained art therapist, this program invites patients, carers and staff to pause, create and express themselves through art.

These creative sessions offer a meaningful outlet for reflection, comfort and emotional wellbeing.

With your support, the program can grow beyond the Ambulatory Care Centre and reach patients in hospital wards during recovery.

Wishing Well Project: Photography
Staff Photography Competition

This initiative celebrates the creativity of the hospital community while helping transform clinical spaces.

In 2025, 25 photographs were selected from 76 entries, professionally framed and displayed in Ambulatory Care for patients, carers and staff to enjoy.

Your support can ensure more artworks are displayed and rotated throughout other areas of the hospital, helping create uplifting environments for all who spend time there.

YOUR SUPPORT MATTERS

Bringing warmth and connection through the arts

The Art of Wellness is more than a program – it is a way of bringing warmth and connection into healthcare.

Your donation can help create moments of joy, distraction, reflection and hope for people when they need it most.

It can help a patient feel less alone, a carer feel lifted, or a staff member feel supported in a demanding environment.
