This week marks seven years since Gilbert Lorquet stepped into the role of CEO at the NORTH Foundation. What began as a small team of just a few staff has grown into a group of 20, all united by a shared commitment to advancing healthcare and medical research.

Under Gil’s leadership, the NORTH Foundation has raised tens of millions of dollars, including a landmark $20 million gift to support cancer clinical trials which was our largest donation to date. That extraordinary contribution is already accelerating life-saving research and offering new hope to patients and their families.

Reflecting on his journey so far, Gil shared, “It’s been an incredible seven years of growth and learning. I’m so proud of the team we’ve built because every success we’ve had is thanks to their commitment to making a difference.”

A standout moment in Gil’s tenure was the NORTH Foundation’s five-year anniversary celebration at Admiralty House, hosted by Governor-General Sam Mostyn AC. It was a proud occasion that recognised our growing impact and positive reputation.

More recently, Gil returned from a visit to the United States, where he met with philanthropy leaders and explored new ideas to strengthen the NORTH Foundation’s work. The insights he brought back will help shape the next chapter of our growth in 2026 and beyond.

Gil is also honoured to serve as Chair of the NSLHD Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) Employee Network, a role that reflects both his personal heritage and professional values. Drawing on his Mauritian background, Gil brings a deep appreciation for cultural diversity and the importance of inclusive leadership. Through this role, he has helped shine a light on the experiences of CALD colleagues across the district, fostering greater visibility and connection.

Anthony Schembri AM, Chief Executive of the NSLHD, shared, “The relationship between the NORTH Foundation and the district has never been stronger. A recent bequest gave Royal North Shore Hospital a state-of-the-art surgical robot and this kind of philanthropy truly represents the future of healthcare. We’re proud to be working alongside Gil and his team and I congratulate him on seven years.”

Michael Ellies, Chair of the NORTH Foundation Board of Directors shared, “Gil’s leadership has been truly transformative. His energy has lifted the NORTH Foundation to new heights and what stands out is the team he’s built. Their achievements reflect the culture of purpose he’s fostered and as a board, we’re incredibly proud of what they’ve accomplished together.”

Tomorrow, the NORTH Foundation will launch a special series sharing Gil’s reflections and learnings from his US tour. Watch this space!

Congratulations, Gil, on seven remarkable years. We’re all excited for what’s next.
