We are grateful for the unwavering support from our incredible community fundraisers. Here are a few stories from 2024 that highlight the extraordinary ways our community has come together to make a difference.
The Pink Ladies
The Pink Ladies of Royal North Shore Hospital raised over $100,000 through cake stalls and their ever popular shop in the foyer. One patient shared how the trolley had become the highlight of her day: “It’s not just about buying something – it’s the chance to have a conversation. It makes my day feel brighter, more connected.” The Pink Ladies’ work supports critical medical equipment for various departments, including maternity, NICU, and emergency care.
Second Chance Charity Golf Day
Brett and Jodie  Barton have a personal connection to the Royal North Shore Hospital’s renal transplant unit. In 2022, Jodie was facing kidney failure and started dialysis while waiting for a transplant. In November 2023, she received the gift of life – a kidney transplant. To give back, they decided to host a golf day, raising $25,000 for the unit.
For Brett and Jodie, this event is more than just a fundraiser – it’s a way to raise awareness of life-saving kidney transplants.
The County Women’s Association (CWA)
The Country Women’s Association (CWA) of Canberra raised $5,000 to fund research on adrenocortical carcinoma, a rare and aggressive cancer. This donation came after hearing about the battle of one of their community members, Debbie, who is bravely fighting this disease. Their commitment to supporting vital cancer research is a reminder of the importance of community solidarity, especially for less common cancers that often lack funding.
Meanwhile, the CWA of Hornsby made an incredible gift to the Paediatric Department by donating $8,000 for an Airvo 3 machine. This critical piece of equipment helps reduce intubation rates for children with acute respiratory failure.
OzSpurs
When one of their own was fighting for his life, the members of OzSpurs, a passionate group of Tottenham Hotspur supporters, knew they had to give back. Paul was in critical condition at Royal North Shore Hospital, undergoing multiple surgeries after suffering organ failure. His road to recovery was long and uncertain, but thanks to the ICU’s expert care, he pulled through. In gratitude, OzSpurs organised a series of fundraising events  raising over $5,000. Their efforts will support life-saving treatments and ensure that the ICU remains equipped to help those in need.
Crows Nest Rotary
The Crows Nest Rotary Club’ raised almost $5,500 to purchase two Lullaby Phototherapy Systems for the NICU at Royal North Shore Hospital. These machines provide crucial treatment for newborns in need of advanced care, ensuring they have the best chance for a healthy start in life.
End of School Fundraiser
Our community’s spirit extends far and wide, with schools like Chatswood High School getting involved. Year 12 students continued their tradition of giving back with their annual end-of-year walk, disco, and food stalls, raising much-needed funds for the NORTH Foundation.
