Transforming Patient Care Through World-Class Training

The Pamela Margaret Andrew Simulation Centre at Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital is a leading-edge facility dedicated to transforming how healthcare professionals learn, train, and prepare for real-world clinical care.

Established through a generous bequest from the late Pamela Margaret Andrew, a former patient and passionate hospital volunteer, the centre is a lasting legacy that reflects her commitment to improving healthcare for others.

Equipped with high-fidelity mannequins, virtual reality tools, and realistic clinical environments, the centre delivers hands-on training across multiple disciplines. From everyday procedures to high-stakes emergencies, healthcare teams can safely practice and refine their skills, improve communication, and strengthen decision-making.

By bridging the gap between theory and real-life application, the Simulation Centre enhances patient safety, supports clinical excellence, and prepares staff to deliver the highest standard of care.

Your support helps sustain and grow this vital work, investing in better outcomes for both patients and the healthcare professionals who care for them.

SUPPORT THE PAMELA MARGARET ANDREW SIMULATION CENTRE

Simulation training saves lives, strengthens teams, and improves care.

Simulation plays a critical role in tackling universal healthcare challenges. It improves patient safety, reduces complications, and enhances the overall patient experience. By allowing staff to practise real-life scenarios in a safe environment, it helps prevent avoidable errors and improves outcomes across the board.

Your support helps:

  • Reduce mortality and morbidity through realistic, hands-on training
  • Foster a culture of safety by enhancing clinical teamwork and communication
  • Build workforce resilience and confidence under pressure
  • Provide multi-disciplinary training for both everyday procedures and rare, high-risk situations
  • Ensure staff are prepared, skilled, and supported, no matter what they face

By supporting this project, you are supporting better care for everyone, patients, families, and the healthcare professionals who serve them.

How Simulation Strengthens Every Level of Care

Training That Reflects Real-World Needs

The Pamela Margaret Andrew Simulation Centre is more than a training space : it’s an active, fully integrated part of Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital’s clinical environment. It delivers both mandatory and tailored training across a range of disciplines, supporting compliance with NSQHS Standard 8 – Recognising and Responding to Acute Deterioration.

Programs are designed in close collaboration with clinical teams to ensure they reflect real-world challenges and make a meaningful impact on day-to-day care.

In-Situ Simulations for High-Pressure Preparedness

Beyond structured courses, the centre conducts in-situ simulations in clinical areas including Emergency, Outpatient Clinics, Paediatrics and Maternity. These on-site training sessions allow staff to practise and prepare for high-risk scenarios in the exact environments where they work.

This hands-on approach strengthens staff readiness, helps identify system gaps, and drives continuous improvement in clinical processes across the hospital.

A Team Dedicated to Safer, Smarter Care

The Simulation Centre is staffed by a skilled, multidisciplinary team, including Simulation Fellows, Staff Specialists, and Nurse Educators, who bring extensive critical care experience. They not only deliver training but also actively contribute to hospital-wide quality and safety efforts, including the Clinical Emergency Response System and the Clinical Incident Action Group.

Looking ahead, the centre remains focused on shaping best practice through ongoing evaluation, process improvement, and future workforce planning, ensuring care continues to evolve to meet the highest standards.
