Support the Lavender Unit Sensory Garden at Macquarie Hospital

Project Overview
Lavender Unit is a 30-bed facility that offers specialised rehabilitation services for older adults (aged 65 and above) with complex medical, behavioural, and mental health needs.
The aim of this project is to revitalise the existing garden area into a therapeutic and dynamic healing space that supports both physical and emotional wellbeing. Key features will include designated areas for exercise and activities, vegetable-growing spaces, shaded seating for visits with family and friends, and a sensory garden designed to engage the senses.
This revitalised garden will be particularly important for the residents of Lavender Unit, many of whom face significant mental and physical health challenges, as well as mobility issues. Extended hospital stays and limited access to the community make such a dedicated space vital for promoting rehabilitation, enhancing quality of life, and fostering social interaction in a safe, accessible environment.

Why Support the Lavender Unit?
This sensory garden will provide a therapeutic environment for older people that improves mood and reduces stress, while offering sensory and cognitive stimulation through gardening activities.
These activities can encourage social interaction, serving as a form of social prescribing that fosters connection and community.
Additionally, the garden will promote outdoor time and physical movement, contributing to better physical health and making more effective use of the courtyard.
