The care that you’ve shown your family and friends in your lifetime is your legacy. The care that you and your loved ones received from our healthcare services and researchers is ours.

Naturally, leaving a gift in your Will can inspire a lot of big thinking and discussion, so we’ve created a guide which provides six easy steps to creating your legacy gift. It also includes practical information on how to write or amend your Will, and answers to common bequest questions.

Become a Northern Star 

Our legacy donors are forever referred to as a Northern Star, as they guide us to a brighter future and inspire us to keep working tirelessly for communities within the NSLHD.  

Almost 100 years ago in 1929, Ms Eva Kolling, OBE made a substantial donation of approximately $650,000 to her local community, which was used to construct the Charles Kolling Memorial Laboratory. Upon her passing, Eva left a subsequent legacy donation in her Will, facilitating the expansion of the facility. Fast forward to 2024, and the Kolling Institute has now grown into a centre for medical research excellence, impacting the lives of thousands of people. 

Her story is one of true heroism because even though she has been immortalised through this research facility, she wanted nothing more than to save lives and help contribute to the betterment of humanity. 

Many of our district’s most critical healthcare facilities can have their origins traced back to acts of philanthropy.

We all stand on the shoulders of the incredibly charitable individuals who felt compelled to give something back to their community. 

Our Northern Stars will be perpetually be immortalised through their contribution to the betterment of our community. Giving the gift of hope is a legacy that will stand the test of time.
